SUBMIT A PROPOSAL

To be considered for publication, please submit a proposal (200 words or less) that includes a short synopsis of your approach to your subject; two writing samples of similar content and/or length; and a résumé or CV. Proposing authors must demonstrate previous or similar experience writing on the subject and at the length of proposed essay. Proposals for specific issues must be submitted in accordance with deadlines set for that issue. (See below.)  Send your proposal(s) to gratefullpress@gmail.com

  • Reviews (600-1000 words): current works–related to issue topics–that address artists or exhibitions, performances or events in the greater Philadelphia area, a 35 mile radius that includes Trenton, NJ and Wilmington, DE. Your review proposal must include why you believe this subject is important to cover, how it is related to the issue topic, what are the highlights of the show, and the details of who, where and when. 

  • Short (600-1500 words) and Long (1500- 2500 words) essays: short- and long-form essays must be on a subject of importance to the creative community and related to the topic for that specific issue. 

  • Long reads (2500-4000 words): Long-form essays on a subject of importance to the creative community and on topic for the issue.

  • Interviews (1500-2500 words): We only accept proposals for interviews with individuals who have had a specific influence on the shape of regional and local arts and culture and are related to topic.

We seek:

  • The personal narratives of six emerging/recent undergraduate or graduate artists (dancer; musician; actor; visual artist; craftsperson; performance artist). Submissions must reflect their experience living and working in this economy, while demonstrating success in their career path. (1000 words each) 

  • Music, theater, art, and book reviews related to economics. (1000 words each)

  • A profile about an established and successful artist, based on industry standards, related to their life experience; how they have negotiated the economics of being an artist; and how they relate their continued success to financial health. (2500-3000 words)

  • The perspective of an economist on the subject of the financial health of the arts and artists in Philadelphia. (1500-3000)

  • The perspective of a frequent concert goer on the rising cost to attend live events. (1000-2000 words)
